Why have they decommissioned the BBQs in the John Knight Memorial Park?

By johnboy - 13 April 2013 11

Katrina has mailed this in raising some pretty fair questions:

Hi, just want to make the public aware that the BBQ’s (near the park and carpark) at John Knight Memorial Park are out of order!

Just what we needed when we arrived to host a kids bday party for 27 kids!

No sign and when I called Canberra Connect to let them know I was told that they were in fact decommissioned (hopefully not true) and they will not be fixed!!!

Why in such a beautiful park would they not fix the BBQs so we can all enjoy a nice day out….after all, kids are encouraged to get out and play! At the very least there should be a sign?

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on why they have be decommissioned?

What’s Your opinion?

Cleaners got ticked off every morning having to clean off the faeces left by rascally teenagers the night before.

Add a bread roll and you have a turd burger. What’s the problem?

They’ve decommissioned all the BBQs in the ACT. Something to do with the danger to the public from having a hotplate getting hot and also the threat of legal action from someone getting sick from flies, etc, sitting on the hotplate.

Seriously? You know this for sure or did you just hear it on the grapevine? I used one recently that worked fine and I would be pretty annoyed if this is true. There will be no reason to go to certain BBQ areas any more.

There’s no joke so obvious that someone won’t get it.

There are no plans to decommission barbeques in the ACT. Territory and Municipal Services has recently upgraded barbeque facilities at 38 sites across Canberra.

The two barbeques in John Knight Memorial Park are temporarily out of order as they have a problem with the drip tray. Signs were placed on these barbeques stating they are temporarily out of order. The barbeques are expected to be fixed and operational by the end of this week.

Seriously though, surely they aren’t to be decommissioned?!

Maybe Belconen Community Council (aka: Shirley’s Tea Society) has had them turned off as a sign of respect to the passing of Margaret Thatcher?

No they’re haven’t decommissioned all the bbqs in the ACT – as of 2pm today at least one was working. In the Weston Creek area. Don’t want to say which one in case it’s supposed to be decommissioned and someone has forgotten.

In the words of one John McEnroe, you cannot be serious!

They were operational last week at John Knight Memorial Park (cooked a bunch of sausages for a kids party). Although I did report one plate as not working to ‘fix my street’.

What was plan B for 27 kids?
