The Canberra Southern Cross Club’s highly anticipated YES-vember is back and packing a serious punch in support of more than 150 local organisations.
During YES-vember, 15 cents from every dollar club members spend on food and beverages at Woden, Tuggeranong, Jamison, the Yacht Club and Snapper & Co goes to a local community group of their choice.
The Canberra Southern Cross Club Community Rewards program, which has been running since 2015, sees members nominate one of the club’s community partners to receive 7.5 cents from every dollar spent.
YES-vember builds on this with double rewards, allowing patrons to have more say in where their support goes in the lead-up to Christmas.
Over the 2023/24 financial year alone, Canberra Southern Cross Club contributed more than $1.4 million to its partners across its five community giving programs.
Community engagement officer Kate Davis says promotions like this aren’t just about fundraising – they’re also a prime opportunity to highlight community partners and their work.
“The aim is to showcase the activities, promotions and successes of our 150-plus partners,” she says.
“We’ve started a Community Rewards Spotlight on social media, where we provide a snippet of who each partner organisation is, what they do and how our members can support them.
“It fosters a closer connection between these groups and their communities, leading to better outcomes for those accessing support or services from our partners.”
One such partner, the Cancer Patients Foundation, was recently highlighted by Canberra Southern Cross Club’s Community Rewards Spotlight, providing unique insights into its story.
“The Look Good Feel Better program helps patients manage the physical and emotional impacts of cancer treatment,” the spotlight reads.
“Since 1990, Look Good Feel Better – Australia has supported over 190,000 people, providing free workshops and Confidence Kits to help participants regain confidence and control.
“Since partnering with the Canberra Southern Cross Club in 2020, Look Good Feel Better has raised over $20,000, benefiting more than 200 people in Canberra. We’re proud to host an average of 10 workshops each year for our local cancer community.”
Just some of the club’s other partners are St Vincent De Paul (Vinnies) Canberra/Goulburn, the Canberra Yacht Club and Karinya House.
The team also supports smaller groups such as Koala Playschool, Heart Support Australia, Deanne Calisthenics, Louisa Domestic Violence Service and Canberra Harmony Chorus.
Kate calls out to local diners “to get their club on” this month.
“If you’re one of the many Canberrans who enjoys going out for dinner and drinks with loved ones in a great club atmosphere, why not do so this November?
“It’s sure to taste that much better knowing you’re contributing to one of the many great causes Canberra Southern Cross Club supports throughout the capital.”
