Well Leonard Cohen said he couldn’t keep track of each fallen robin. But ABC Online have reported the Chief Minister is pushing for a memorial on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin for the Sinking of the SIEV-X (Wikipedia have a page on this issue here). The memorial campaign has a webpage up here.
ABC Online also have a later report that the NCA hold to a fortunate rule of not considering applications for a memorial until ten years after the event (otherwise imagine the chaos that would ensue).
Of course what’s to stop our memorial builders raising the funds through public subscription (fund raising appeal) and putting it on Lake Ginninderra or Tuggeranong? While we’re at it, where’s the plan for a memoral to the Vietnamese who died because Gough Whitlam ordered Australian forces to give no aid to the evacuation of South Vietnam in 1975?
