Aussie Junk Underpaid Employees $280,000

I have been shoping at aussie junk mitchell since 2004 and thay have been really good to us i know the ex managers from mitchell thay where all helping them selves to all the goodies thay where selling a lot of the good stock on ebay for them selves and dowing the weekend markets and swap meetings. thay had the run of mitchell and all of the goods for 2 to 3 years at that stage the owner wife was dying with breast cancer and while the owner helped his dying wife thay helped them selves to all the good items and run the place as if it was there own. at that stage there was a administrater dowing the book wook for mitchell shop but i think he was lining his pockets to appantly he bought 3 big houses in three years. thay got rid of all the employees that where there from the start of mitchell like judy.judy had the shop runing real good and the prices where fair and all the stock was for sale when judy moved to qld. the place went down hill as i was a volenteer on the weekends that came to a end real quick when thay started to manage the mitchell shop thay even tried to take the concract of aussie junk but when the owner had had enough of all the complaints from the shopers at mitchell he went to mitchell and told them that thay where no longer needded and told to leave the site. thats when thay started to scream out to the media with all of these allegations and if you shopped there when thay managed the shop you well know that thay where up to no good thay had the best job in the world and stuffed up. did thay think the owner would put up with it well thay where wrong mitchell has been doing real good since the new management took over 9 months ago.i think there is to sides to the story and aussie junk will have it’s turn i dont think the owner is that nieve he will have his say in court i dont think he got in to buisness through being a softey. i think the truth will be told about what realy went on at mitchell when thay where managing the site.mitchell shop has never ran as well as it is now it has good management and the shop is really clean and in order i have not seen it this good for a long time keep up the good work

In fact (and this really IS sad – i hope i never meet anyone from RiotACT face to face :-)) it almost became a social thing on a sunday to pop in to Aussie Junk to see what we could pick up.

Not sad at all. We’ve saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars ducking in there once or twice a month on the way back from Fyshwick or Queanbeyan.

I like the new post-Revolve arrangements – everything’s much cleaner, easier to find and cheaper, and the staff seem really pleasant. But if they’re being screwed out of their wages, then f.ck that.

I see the news affiliates have all run the story as well.It must be making a few people take notice.
Seeing he has decided to wind up the company, I think you can safely assume he knows his days are numbered and that he has no defence against these allegations.

Bogans and their toys, and the reason bogan run businesses are the first to go broke.

This is obviously why they won the contract in the first place – pricing that was cheap or a lease fee that was too high. Either way the when prices go up and wages aren’t paid it’s time to boot them out and get Revolve back in…(at least they only failed to pay their lease).

We came to Canberra in Aug 07 from the Uk and found Aussie Junk invaluable! We got TV, a bread maker, cabling, DVD player chairs and table etc etc from there. It was fantastic.

However, we saw a steady decline of Aussie Junk – prices going higher and higher and daft rules like the one that says you HAVE to buy the whole computer/bike (at a crazy price, if you are just after a cable) rather than take bits off to buy. We dont go anymore; it is a shame as Aussie Junk used to be really good (we came after Revolve left, so cant compare) but it just looks like the owners got greadier and greadier. Ho Hum.

Being owed money by an employer sucks. I can certainly empathize with that right now. I hope Aussie Junk are successfully prosecuted to deter other employers from conning their employees. They certainly suit their name.

Yes, I’m sure Revolve would like to get the operation back but I cannot see the Gov’t eating that much humble pie.
Their issue was never with Revolve (company or concept) but with the administration.

Actually if you search ASIC you will find that an application was made for winding up the company Aussie Junk Pty Ltd on the 19th May…

As you suggest, if the company ceases trading and sells all it’s assets to cover debts, then the government will have to put out a new service. I would like to think that a close association with a previous company that was unable to fulfil the service tendered for (like it being your Dad’s, and having the same name) would count against you in any future tender process.

Why not give Revolve another chance, if they want it. It’s a good opportunity to overturn a bad decision by a past majority government. It would also move some way towards compensating Revolve for the value of the business taken off them, albeit legally but unethically.

I want to hear more about the alleged secret room where staff sell all the decent and rare finds on ebay for a huge profit. At least that’s what I read on here anyway.

And another business has been registered as Aussie Junk Recyclers with his son named as Sole Proprietor.
I wonder what ACT Nowaste think of this considering they have a Government contract with Aussie Junk Pty Ltd.
Maybe he thought he would just change the name and no one would notice.

sepi – quite likely. Don’t know if they still do, but they used to have clauses in govt contracts where the contractor essentially warranted that they comply with relevant workplace legislation, awards, agreements etc. So not complying is a breach of the contract.

Would something like this be grounds for re-tendering the contract, or are we stuck with Aussie Junk now for years to come?
