Kosciuszko National Park at Bullocks Flat accident

An elderly man was seriously injured when he was hit by a bus near the entry to Kosciuszko National Park at Bullocks Flat yesterday.

The 73-year-old man was airlifted to The Canberra Hospital to be treated for head injuries and a fractured femur and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

About 3.30pm yesterday, the man parked his car near the national park entry and attempted to cross Alpine Way.

A bus travelling east along the same road ran into him.

Officers from Monaro Local Area Command conducting random roadside testing nearby assisted the man until he could be airlifted to hospital.

The uninjured male driver of the bus was taken to Cooma Hospital for mandatory testing.

Inquiries into the circumstances leading up to the crash continue, and police urge any witnesses who have not come forward to contact Crime Stoppers.
