There have of course been other posts. This one is from 2009. I’d like some more recent recommendations of good and reliable builders who have built a deck/pergola.
Also, typically – how long does it take? Just need to know because we have two Kelpies and will need to keep them out of the way while the deck’s being built.
Also, I have read the previous recommendations about “do it yourself” and go to Bunnings – I definitely don’t want to do it myself which is why I am hoping for some recommendations for reliable professionals. Thanks in advance.
Hi koalathebear,
We recently got a small deck made up and love spending time on it. Specially during the sunset when there is gentle cool breeze and a beer in hand.
I did plan to do this myself, however mrs wanted us to hire some one as this way the job actually got completed.
Got a friend refer us to a local mob, got them bookmarked for more work – http://canberrabuildingmaintenance.com.au .
Would surely recommend their quality of work.
Paving a deck and porch.
Can anyone recommend someone to do a small amount of outdoor tile work?
I tried Chris @ Walmsley Built and he was great. We have a few more projects coming up with our deck. We will definitely use him again. http://walmsleybuilt.com.au

Erm, not in my experience. Emailed, no response. Called him, left messages. Took two more calls for him to show up (late), and to date, he hasn’t provided the quote. That was three months ago.
And don’t bother using the enquiry form on the website because no one will answer.
A poor experience all ’round.
hi there,
i understand where you are coming from when it comes to finding a good builder as they can be few and far between.
i had a recommendation from a friend last year for a builder he found on the post on this site you mentioned, Danny from Currall Constructions. i called him up for a quote and ended up getting him to build my deck. i would have no problems in recommending him as a local builder for anyone looking for a deck.
as for the time it would take to build a deck, im assuming it would depend on the size of deck you are after. mine was a fair size and fits a table and chairs on it with room to still move around and it was done in 4 days.
i hope this post helps, good luck with your deck.
Adam at First Man Trade Services – http://www.firstman.com.au/ – really efficient and great quality and rates!
Luke from LMC carpentry. a couple of days should be enough.
