Twenty-six people were caught drink-driving on ACT roads last week (23-29 July), with eight of those drivers being repeat offenders.
Six of the drink-drivers were subject to a zero Alcohol Content reading, and 18 had their licences seized through the issuance of Immediate Suspension Notices.
The highest reading for the week was recorded around 9.30am on Saturday (July 27), when police stopped a white Volkswagen light truck after the driver attempted to avoid a Random Breath Testing station on Benjamin Way in Belconnen. The driver, a 33-year-old Macquarie man, returned a positive roadside screening test and was taken to Belconnen Police Station, where he returned an Alcohol Content reading of 0.194.
As a provisional licence holder, the man was subject to a zero blood alcohol concentration. He had his licence seized immediately and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on September 5.
Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations Sergeant Rod Anderson said police across all areas of the ACT will continue to remove impaired drivers from our roads.
“The 18 drivers issued with Immediate Suspension Notices were caught by General Duties members from all five police stations across the ACT. This demonstrates removing alcohol impaired drivers from our roads is a priority for all ACT Policing members,” Sergeant Anderson said.
