Tonight Katy Gallagher will be hosting a twitter cabinet, in celebration of the fact we live in the future and can do things like this.
A twitter cabinet is a very handy thing. It allows the public direct access to our most high profile public servants, so we can directly ask them questions and they can, in turn, more efficiently and directly ignore them and answer the questions they would like to be asked.
It’s a bright and bold new world, and it starts at 7.30 and finishes at 8.30 this evening.
“All of the members Cabinet are excited to take part in Twitter Cabinet again in 2013 and are looking forward to hearing what issues are on the minds of Canberrans at this point in time,” the Chief Minister said.
“The twitter cabinet session is just one of the avenues that ACT community members can get in touch with their government ministers and raise the issues that are important to them directly and in real time.
“This particular way of engaging with the community also allows us a government to engage with a demographic that are traditionally younger and sometimes not as actively engaged in the political process.”
Traditional ways of getting in touch with ministers remain available, via email, post or by phone. All ministers’ contact details can be found on the www.directory.act.gov.au website or by calling Canberra Connect.
The Chief Minister said that the later time for the twitter cabinet session would make it easier for some Canberrans to get involved.
“In the past our twitter cabinets have been conducted through the work day or during lunch-breaks, but having it after hours will hopefully give a larger group of Canberrans a chance to take part,” the Chief Minister said.
“The twitter cabinet sessions have been very successful in the past and I encourage all those with an issue on their mind to prepare their questions and engage with the hour long session scheduled for this evening (May 29, 2013) between 7:30pm and 8:30pm.”
