TAMS are letting us know that the arboretum’s bonsai museum has a Japanese visitor givin them some pointers:
“This week Mr Yusuke Uchida from Nagoya, Japan, who worked as an apprentice for four years with renowned bonsai master, Mr Junichiro Tanaka, will be working at the Arboretum, imparting his knowledge of this ancient art,” Mr Taafe said.
“Mr Uchida will help refine some of the bonsai owned by the collection and in doing so the staff and volunteers will learn the valuable techniques used to create some of the world’s finest bonsai, as seen in Japan.
“This is the first engagement of its type at the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection and we hope it creates a precedent for other internationally recognised bonsai artists to visit. It is a great opportunity for them to gain an insight into the cultivation of Australian species of trees such as bonsai and the management of bonsai from an Australian perspective.
