Canberra local NinaRibena (aka Lisa Barrett) has shown she really does have style, with her humble Higgins abode featuring in this month’s Home Beautiful magazine.

Her home is a display of colour, with a palette including bold reds and muted greens bordered by clean white. Her eclectic style also includes plenty of pattern and texture, with her passion for interesting fabrics and paper exhibited throughout her home. The house is also very functional, with plenty of play space for the kids and a new modern kitchen.

The designer, blogger and mother of two is very active on the world wide web, keeping everyone up to date with all things stylish in the nation’s capital on Canberra’s Got Style, and showcasing her own homemade fashion, jewellery and home wares on Ninaribenamakes.com. Her brand, Tango and James, is available online as well as at local handmade markets and she is also an occasional reader of RiotACT.

Man of the house, Chris, a regular RiotACT lurker, still can’t see what the fuss is all about “It’s just the home we live in”, and while all is neat and tidy in the photos, Lisa is quick to add “it’s actually never this clean, so it is strange to see it like this! But who wants to see it strewn with toys anyway? It’s pretty amazing to have your home in a magazine, and as an interior designer, a bit of a dream come true”.

This is just beautiful, how clever and talented! The photos are just amazing. I wish my house was that tidy!
Nice!

I must admit I go read her blog for inspiration on storage ideas, especially for the kids stuff. And then I realise it’s past my bedtime and I never end up doing anything and I’m still tripping over toys everywhere I walk…

Wow. She seems very talented.

Being born in the seventies means I think the sixties are cool.
Although I don’t think this house is really all that sixties. Where’s the wood panel veneers? Nope, it’s lots of white with liberal splashes of colour. The good thing is that adding colour and texture through soft furnishings means it’s easier to update style when you want to – new cushions and curtains, new artwork, and you’ve got a totally different look.

Looks nice to me. Good for renovation ideas. Love the comment about the kids toys.

It’s all a bit sixties for my tastes, looks like my old dears house.

Much more betterer!

No, betterer is better than more better.

Love her use of colour and texture in fabrics. She really is talented.

I love that comment she made about it being clean for the photos. Since I was a kid, I’ve always wondered why all these houses in magazines exist if no one lives in them!

Well done! I love the use of colour in a home.

It’s nice to see a Canberra home featured like that! Nice prints and textures!
