ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher has raised the future of the public service in Canberra and regional concerns about the federal budget with Prime Minister Tony Abbott, according to the Canberra Times.
Ms Gallagher has explained concerns of public service workers facing redundancies, in her first one-on-one meeting with Mr Abbott since his election win last year. She has also said Canberra must remain ‘the natural home for the public service’.
“The best thing the Commonwealth can do for this city is to keep their centre of operations here. We don’t want to see agencies disappearing to different places across Australia,” she said.
