A Summer Fling

With these warmer months approaching it’s hard not to want to spend most of my time out doors, taking in all the sunshine and warmth before the next Winter comes.

It’s also a really good time to shake up date night and do something a bit different to your usual routine.

Here are my suggestions to shake it up this summer:

Open Air Cinema

While it’s only open for around a month (18 Jan – 22 Feb) it’s a really nice alternative to going to Hoyts or Dendy. Not only do they screen new movies, they also show a few old classics that are worth catching at the big screen like Rocky Horror and Princess Bride. Top it off with a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s and I’m there!

Winery Lunch

When I think summer the first thing that comes to mind is road trips, luckily we have some gems within driving distance to Canberra and I highly recommend you had a lunch date to Lake George Winery to your list. While 40 years ago the view over Lake George would have been breathtaking it’s still a great winery to try a few glasses of wine over lunch with a view of the now empty lake and nearby wind farm. I’ve been here twice and it never dissapoints!

Night Market Canberra

Summer nights can be deliciously cool that you’d rather be outside rather than inside, so Night Market Canberra has come at a really good time! You can stroll through stalls of local fashion, design, interiors and more all within the Hotel Realm precinct. You can also enjoy a sneaky drink or two at Maple & Clove who will be open during the market.

Lake Burley Griffin

While I drive past Lake Burley Griffin almost daily, I find I completely under utilise it! This summer I plan on more coffees, more walks and maybe even a segway ride or two to get me outdoors and having a little fun outside my comfort zone.

Hit me with your best summer date ideas! I’m going to need more than the above to get me through 😉

I’m reminded of Bernard Black’s ‘summer girl’:

“I’ve got to get a girlfriend, just for the summer, until this wears off. She’ll be a summery girl. She’ll have hair. She’ll have summery friends who know how to be outside. She’ll play tennis and wear dresses and have bare feet, and in the autumn, I’ll ditch her, because she’s my summer girl!”
