The Boat House is again hosting a party to celebrate the changing of the seasons, following up last year’s fabulous October celebration.

The plan is to hold a ‘lakeside sesh’ as a biannual spectacle to salute the sun.

The Last Light of Summer party, farewelling the season each year, will bring back the hits of the October party: bottomless drinks, a gourmet feast, DJ sets and Love Boat rides around the lake.

“We wanted to create a party that captures everything we love about a Canberra summer – the fresh air, the lake, amazing food and, of course, good company,” said The Boat House owner, James Souter.

“Step onto our lawns and you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked off to a secret waterfront oasis right here in the heart of Canberra.”

There will be a sense of theatre and all the delicious smells of a summer barbecue with an al fresco charcoal barbecue station and huge pans of celebratory paella cooked in the open. A curated menu of ‘bites’ from The Boat House kitchen will also keep guests well sated throughout the afternoon (especially important with all those free-flowing drinks!).

“We’re showcasing some of our favourite ingredients and flavours to celebrate the end of the season,” The Boat House chef John Leverink said.

The Boat House has previously run regular seasonal bar sessions in this outdoor space under the name Armada Bar. It also owns Beltana Farm at Pialligo, Canteen at Dairy Road in Fyshwick and Margot Bar, on the opposite side of the lake.

The drinks list includes bottomless bubbles and rose from Collector Wines, Capital Brewing Coast Ale, and summer cocktails featuring Phoenix Lost River vodka and gin. DJ Brother will start the afternoon with chilled vibes before amping up the party energy as the sun sets.

The lawns beside The Boat House provide an idyllic waterside location for games and a private jetty from which to board the 103-year-old MV Reliance from Love Boats for a jaunt around the lake, drinks in hand.

“There’s something about gathering by the water,” James said.

“We’re creating an evening that feels like a true escape – where you can savour the last light of summer.”

The Last Light of Summer event will be held on Saturday, 29 March from 6 to 10 pm.

Tickets are strictly limited and selling fast.
