Perfectly situated on the gentle shores of Lake Burley Griffin, The Jetty is a venue like no other in Canberra – and it’s now open for its third summer season.

Co-owners of The Dock in Kingston, Glen and Jane Collins, opened the seasonal bar garden and year-round café for the first time in the summer of 2021 alongside Rena Judd, Dean Ratsch and Bailey Smith.

Glen is keen to see crowds return to The Jetty in 2023, having spent the off-season making some pretty significant upgrades.

The popular lakeside venue is showing off a brand new look, complete with fresh food options, cheerful Floriade planters, an extensive drinks menu and the pièce de résistance, a premium marquee designed by HR Structures Australia.

“The biggest change visitors will notice is our new all-weather marquee,” Glen says.

“It’s a sleek design offering a spacious indoor and outdoor setting that keeps up to 200 people cool and dry, which will no doubt come in handy knowing Canberra’s weather.”

Live music is also back in force, with local artists Nick Rigby, Dan Millane, Ness Quinn and Salubrious Duo taking over the stage on the opening weekend.

Ticketed events are also on the cards from October through to March, but only style is required to enter the 80s night on 25 November.

A carefully curated drinks menu showcases Bentspoke and Travla beers on tap alongside local wines from MADA, Nick O’Leary and Bourke Street, topped off with cocktails thanks to Aperol Spritz Australia, Four Pillars Gin and The Modern Cocktail Co.

Fricken Chicken offers mouthwatering burgers, boxes, wings and ribs in support of The Jetty Cafe’s coffee, treats and baked goods. JOO & NEE Asian Street Food will make their way over from Braddon in December to complete the trio.

The Jetty has become a coveted meeting place, especially for workplace Christmas parties. Glen says booking requests are already coming in ahead of the December rush.

“It’s really exciting to see this project coming together more every year. We can now comfortably accommodate up to 400 people, so we’re ready to hit the ground running once the Christmas season rolls around.

“I invite Canberrans to bring the whole family – kids, parents, grandparents … It’s for everyone, including your dogs! Soak up the view and indulge all their senses with music, food and drink alongside your two and four-legged friends and family.”

The Jetty is located at Queen Elizabeth Terrace on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. It’s open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 pm till late.
