Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, has congratulated 22 members of the ACT Ambulance Service who will graduate at a special ceremony at the ACT Emergency Services Agency Training Centre in Hume at 11am today.

“It is wonderful to recognise all of today’s graduates who have worked hard in their respective areas of study, ranging from six months (Non-Emergency Patient Transport), to four years (Intensive Care Paramedic),” Mr Corbell said.

“All graduating students are current ACTAS members who have completed training courses and now have also extended their qualifications and advanced their career,” he said.

“At today’s ceremony, the 22 officers graduate at three qualification levels, Non-Emergency Patient Transport, Ambulance Paramedic and Intensive Care Paramedic.”

With family and friends looking on, the new graduates today will also demonstrate some of their new advanced skills learnt during the training, including advanced airway management, intravenous access, patient assessment, monitoring and resuscitation techniques.

“Ceremonies like today are always an important milestone in a career and today’s graduates are fully equipped and will continue working in the most trusted profession in the community,” Mr Corbell said.

“The needs of patients have always been and will continue to be paramount and today’s graduates will continue to serve the community in their greatest time of need.

“Ensuring continued public safety to the community is a priority for the ACT Government and
today’s graduation is evidence of the ongoing commitment to supporting the ambulance service by strengthening its ranks in response to increased demand.”
