Who said the Victorians were a stuffy conservative lot? How things have changed! Canberra’s own Fiona Patten MLC!
So Fiona won a seat in the Upper House in Victoria at the last elections, which saw the Liberal a one term wonder, booted out on their proverbials.
Anyone see the pickie in the papers celebrating this wondrous event? Here was Fiona posing outside the Vic Parly House with whom in the background posing in his inimitable style, propping up a pillar? Canberra’s own Jorian Gardner! Hey wait a minute!
I had a chat with a Sex Party member recently and have to say that it was a refreshing chat. The person was saying that their party wanted to have the public here understand that they stood for more than liberalising sex (strange connection here!) and taking away the taboos that plague the modern world.
They apparently have policies (or are working on them) on the environment, on public infrastructure, on community safety and a whole raft of other stuff.
Well, we’ll see when and if they field a candidate in the next ACT election.
Personally, I welcome any small party who is diametrically opposed to that radical right wing proselytising, bunch of feds who are trying to tell me how to live my life, to force their morals onto me, to force me to adopt their religious view of the world.
Anyone who makes it their life’s work to expose the draconian approach of the Religious Right who rule nationally at the moment is welcome in my political football field.
They won’t get elected, of course. Canberra is not Victoria.
There are two reasons they won’t be a chance here. One is political and the other is mechanical.
Politically, they are a fringe party and whilst the Upper House in Victoria is elected on a proportional representational basis, there were a plethora of tiny parties to share the miniscule quota necessary.
Also, to win any support, a party needs to start its publicity campaign a couple of years ahead of the election itself. Now is too late for the next election. Additionally, people in Canberra will not buy that they are not just a single issue party. We have a history of rejecting single issue parties since the debacle of the first Assembly.
The mechanical one is that of credibility. Love him or hate him, Jorian Gardner has a reputation in Canberra. And it is not a good one. Talk about a walking punching bag for those who want to discredit the party with whom he is connected!
The real reasons why he was removed as director of fringe part of the multicultural festival twice and why he departed two media outlets will be leaked out by the unscrupulous contenders who wish him discredit.
And the big rumour is that he will be the number one candidate here at the next election, having had something to do with the Sex Party’s success in Victoria. Can this be true? Will he come back form Vic to contest the ACT election?
Let’s hope Fiona and Robbie have more sense…..
NEWS FLASH; according to FB, Jorian is going to Melbourne. Ha ha! There’ll be wild times in the old town tonight!
Let’s see how the staid establishment in Melbourne deals with Mr Charisma…. I reckon the back streets of St Kilda may be recruiting grounds for a new Member for Exciting Things in the Vic Parly!
Is JG going to be the Jacquie Lambie of the Vic Parly? And will Fiona P be the Clive P of the Vic Parly? Am losing sleep already thinking about it!
So JG will be the Chief Advisor to Fiona P! My bet is that if this is true, and his media release says so, Fiona P will be a one term wonder cos JG is accident prone and his record here is not what a pollie should look for ina chief of staff. Believe me, I know!
