Whilst revelling in the updated-ness of the Canberra Liberals website, I stumbled upon this snippet:
Women’s Issues in the ACT: Work
Despite the fact that women in the ACT on average have better opportunities than other women nationally, many still have in common:
*problems with redundancy or casualisation of jobs
*the continuing adverse impact with divorce
*the impact of funding on carers, as women form by far the largest percentage of carers in the ACT
*the impact of childcare of [sic] funding cuts
*limits set on career advancement and further training of women in general.
Women have traditionally been the underdogs in workplace relations, and the fact of the matter is that they are going to be the first casualties when the IR legislation gets passed, in that they will no longer be as protected as they were in relation to time off work due to caring responsibilities, pregnancy etcetera.
So on one hand the Fed Liberals are shafting them, yet the Territory Liberals are attempting to nurture them.
It might be time for the little libs to check in on what the big libs are doing…
