The Canberra Times is running a story about the latest stoush, between Canberra and our knuckle dragging, bike helmet wearing, word slurring friends inQueanbeyan, over an agreement between our beloved Chief Minister and the Premier of NSW, about the supply of water to Queanbeyan from Canberra’s dams. Persoanlly, I think this is a great idea. Finally we have a chance to poison them all, and rid ourselves of the menace that is Queanbeyan.
However our chances to annex help our neighbours have been foiled by Territories Minister Jim Lloyd, who refused to sign it after having a brief chat to Gary Nairn while bending over a photocopier. Yet again, a territories minister who has managed to single handedly foil Canberras chance at prosperity. Minister Lloys is yet another example why the Territory Ministers portfolio ought be occupied by someone who has at least spent part of his life, a resident in Canberra. Not just visiting everytime a VIP jet comes to get him.
What I find intersesting about this while thing is that a 6000 home development in Googong is hanging in the balance, whilst we continue to thrash out an agreement that provides Queanbeyan with a guarranteed source of water. And on both sides of the border, those who call the shots are heavily involved either developing vacant land into houses (Tony Carey) or ensuring that they are sold (Ian Mcnamee. I think, could be wrong however. If so, sorry Mr Mcnamee).
