Canberra public school students have taken a step into the limelight, showcasing their artistic talents at an art exhibition at the ANU School of Art Gallery.

With more than 300 artworks around the theme ‘Our Land, People and Stories’, students from 30 different public schools across the ACT will present their artwork in the exhibition which runs for two weeks.

ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry, who officially opened the Step into the Limelight art exhibition on Wednesday evening (27 July), said the exhibition provides an opportunity for the Territory’s public school students to present their artworks to the community.

The exhibition, which is in its 12th year, includes work from students from pre-school to year 12 in painting, drawing, ceramics, lino-print, collage, photography, textiles, and wood and metal craft.

Ms Berry is encouraging the Canberra community to come out and visit the exhibition to support local students.

“ACT public schools are developing the artistic talents of their students and inspiring them to create meaningful works, which reflect their inner world and the society they live in,” she said.

“It is great to have events like this that highlight the breadth of artistic talent in Canberra and what we can expect in the future from these amazing young people and, of course, the important work that teachers do to lead each child through their learning journey in creative and non-traditional ways.”

The exhibition is open to the public at the ANU School of Art Gallery from Wednesday 25 July until Saturday 4 August 2018.
