Mystery surrounds the circumstances of a bomb scare in Hackett on Sunday evening (5 August) when properties were evacuated and streets cordoned off after a suspicious package was found inside a house.
ACT Policing said the Specialist Response Group (SRG) Bomb Response Team attended after police received a report about 4:20 pm from two Hackett residents in Burrell Street that they had found a suspicious package when they entered their home.
Police evacuated the premises and several neighbouring properties in Burrell Street and Tryon Street, and placed a cordon around the area while the bomb team evaluated the situation.
The package was ‘rendered safe’ soon after 9 pm and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
Police said AFP Forensics would examine and analyse the package.
ACT Policing is urging anyone who has any information that could assist police, including CCTV or dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
Police also urge anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Tryon, Burrell or MacKenzie Streets, Hackett in the past seven days to report it.
