This year’s ‘Homes of Hope’ Luton Charity Ball has raised at least $125,000, with Hartley Lifecare, Project Independence and Karinya House the beneficiaries from the annual event staged by Luton Properties.
As well as supporting these three charities, the event also includes an annual pledge to donate $10,000 each to the Canberra Hospital Foundation, Sids and Kids and Ozhelp.
More than 530 guests were treated to an exceptional night of performances at the Neon Tokyo-themed ball on 4 August at the AIS Arena including a captivating performance by the Yunion Taiko
Drummers, combining the energy of the Japanese taiko drum with traditional grace and movement.
Drumming up support for Canberra Charities at the Luton Ball is the Yunion Taiko Drummers.
Hosted by The Voice finalist and now Los Angeles based performer Matt Hetherington, who had guests on their feet dancing the night away, the ball also included the Saké and Champagne bar, music by the Funky Fedoras band and the raffle of an exquisite Australian gold South Sea pearl pendant encrusted with diamonds donated by Vangelli Manufacturing Jewellers.
‘Homes of Hope’ refers to the three charities’ commitment to providing much-needed housing for the less fortunate within the Canberra community.
“They work tirelessly in our community giving hope to individuals and families by continuously raising money to develop, build, upkeep current facilities and maintain new and old residential dwellings and also provide ongoing support to the residents that live there,” a Luton spokesperson said.
The funds raised at this year’s ball will contribute towards further housing and support services that the charities require to continue their great work.
President of Karinya House, Sarah Kelly, thanked the generosity of the Canberra community for charities in need.
“Karinya House, Home for Mothers and Babies, supporting pregnant and parenting women in crisis, appreciates sincerely the physical and financial support from the Luton Ball,” she said.
“The funds raised will assist in the continued operation of our Home, to provide accommodation to many vulnerable women in crisis in Canberra, pregnant and homeless, and give them the opportunity to learn life skills for parenting, relationships, study and work – providing hope to these women and their babies – our next generation.”
The Luton Live Auction had some amazing items go under the hammer, including a Hot Air Balloon and Breakfast Experience for eight, a Fijian getaway, Katy Perry, Cher and Sam Smith corporate box concert tickets, a tennis game with Nick Kyrios along with signed shirt and racquet, a custom handmade 12-seater solid timber table, a diamond and morganite pendant, and a Jamala Wildlife Lodge experience.
“We are hearing delighted guests and sponsors are already signing up for next year’s Luton Charity Ball, for yet another gala fashion and charitable extravaganza in 2019,” the Luton spokesperson said.
