Jon Stanhope has announced the lineup for this year’s government-hosted New Year’s party.
Headlining the family friendly concert will be Beatles tribute band The Beatnix. They will be supported by local groups The Diane Mason Band and the Bridge Between (both of which are unknown to the local music savvy Johnboy).
“For those who enjoy the sounds of the 60s and 70s Civic Square is the place to be,” the Chief Minister said, adding that “younger revellers can head to Garema Place for a giant outdoor dance party” which they’ve had in past years and in my experience wasn’t that great.
Both concerts will be alcohol free and thus evidently aimed at those underaged who are law abiding and older people who don’t feel the need to drink so much any more.
There’ll also be the usual fireworks at midnight and pseudo-midnight (9pm).
