There are special regulations for those particular areas, and they do not reflect the general situation across Australia, particularly 300km away in Canberra.

In any case, the controlling authority for the regulations mentioned is not Sydney City Council, but the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.

Kaleen Supabarn doesn’t count as a public place – it’s private property that the public is invited onto, and they can be excluded if management (no matter how spotty and ignorant) want to.

we tried to tape some stuff in Kaleen Supabarn a little while ago and the manager (who was about 12 years old) told us we couldn’t and asked us to leave. what is that about?

public liability insurance is always good and certain venues/buildings/instituions etc often require permissions…

but most filmmakers seem to do what they want… so yahooing is an option…

I guess the issue is whether your actions could cause obstruction, perceptions of danger etc, then other laws may be involved.

Do you need licensing to film ametuer stuff in Canberra? Or can you just go yahooing with mates and a camera anywhere public?
