Four teenagers have been issued infringements for ‘drifting’ and driving dangerously on a possibly sacred Indigenous site next to Quick Street in Ainslie last Friday (7 August).
ACT Policing stopped three cars trying to exit the Doma development site and charged the teenagers with driving on a nature strip, not displaying P-plates, not stopping at a stop sign and improper control of a motor vehicle.
The Federal Environment Department is examining the site at the foot of Mt Ainslie for its significance as a Ngambri sacred site.
Three of the boys are from Daramalan College and the fourth is from Dickson College, the ABC has reported.
Following further investigations, another driver was identified driving in a similar manner at the same place on numerous occasions between November 2019 and August 2020 and was issued the same infringements.
“Police investigations into other reports of similar behaviour into the area are continuing,” and ACT Policing spokesperson said.
“The area is identified as an area of significance to the traditional owners.”
