Tuggeranong Arts Centre has hit the ground running this year, releasing a jam-packed program for all ages across a huge variety of art forms.

CEO Caroline Downer says the centre’s diverse offering is one of its biggest strengths, and in 2025, variety will continue to be king.

“It’s pretty safe to say that art is an important part of everyone’s lives, in one form or another,” she says.

“But I think people forget it’s not just oil paintings, classical music and interpretive dance … Your favourite book, video game or Netflix film is also a work of art.

“Creative diversity brings new perspective, connection and enjoyment to our community, which is what we are looking forward to celebrating even more this year.”

The recently released program, which runs until June, offers Southsiders and visitors from across the pond a chance to enjoy unique, one-off performances alongside the usual term-based suspects in visual art, theatre and dance.

There’s something to suit all ages, interests and levels of ability. Monthly activities include life drawing, a writing group, jazz by the lake, artist networking events, a community choir, seniors dancing and much, much more.

Performances kick off in February with one-human comedy cabaret, Tinderella and the eight unique uses of Tinder, from 7 pm to 9 pm on 14 February.

In this Valentine’s Day special, Alyce Fisher’s performance will explore real-life dating escapades and contemporary app dating culture. The goal is to empower the audience to take control of their own app dating experience.

Exhibitions by Steven Holland, John Brookes and Studio& also open in early February, with free entry for everyone to enjoy.

As the weather begins to cool in April, exhibitions will open by Lynne Flemons (Meander) and Peter McLean and Sharon Peoples (Walking with the Gardener).

Callouts for everyday Canberrans to get involved in Jeremy Goldstein’s Truth to Power Café close on 4 April.

Jeremy Goldstein’s widely acclaimed Truth to Power Café makes its Canberra debut on Saturday, 3 May, from 7 pm.

“Jeremy Goldstein has brought this amazing performance to major cities all over the world, but also to smaller regional communities,” Caroline says.

“We have a callout, which ends in April, for eight everyday people to respond to the question: who has power over you and what do you want to say to them?

“They will then develop it into a monologue and perform it at the event. It promises to be incredibly insightful – there’s a reason this is an award-winning performance.”

The Jazz Haus Canberra’s May presentation features renowned pianist Joe Chindamo, performing in an intimate setting on Saturday the 10th.

Finally, June brings exhibitions by Kevin Gilbert (True), Megan Daley and Rechelle Turner (From Country).

The Jazz Haus Canberra introduces Steve Hunter Band to the monthly mix on 14 June, and Erindale Theatre will host more than 300 of TAC’s talented dancers in their annual Fresh Funk Showcase on 28 June.
