Fortnightly (weekly?) Recycling

Why aren’t the yellow-top recycling bins collected every week?

It does not take much effort to pretty much fill the bin each week.

Cost realities aside (though the budget is not far away), where is the Stanhope government’s commitment to the environment? Seems a little half-arsed really.

Yet another thing Queanbeyan does better than Canberra… a bloody sad state of affairs.

Apparently there was an organic waste (garden clippings, kitchen scraps etc) collection trial in Chifley a few years ago, but it was a failure. We get to keep the bin with the red lid though, was handy for storing horse feed.

id love greenwaste removal.

except that my new mower has a small branch mulcher built into it…

fed half a hedge through it last sunday.

Step up to Queanbeyan, people. We get large recyc bins emptied every fortnight, large green waste emptied every fortnight, and periodic large rubbish removal.

Why don’t they change to emptying the recycle bins once a week and the “other” rubbish bins fortnightly? That or do both fortnightly….

“tenanments” – um, ‘tenets’, s4anta?

but yes, the concept is to engender behavioural changes. actually consume less. i find (in a house with my partner and me) i fill the little bin mebbe once in three weeks and put the recycling one out two out of three times or less. i have a worm farm and i compost but i also try not to get so much rubbish in my packaging.

i agree about the hard rubbish collection – the community recycling ‘on the front lawn – come and get it’ idea a few weeks ago should be encouraged…

just to to kirks comment. The three main tenanments of the philosophy (and part of the jingle) is reduce, reuse and recycle. Start reusing more bits (paper for wormfarms, jars for storage, etc) and your laughing really.

It’s a bit of an expense to pay an extra truck to go around and empty recycling twice when not everyone needs it.

There is the ability to get another bin added to your rates fee. This is like getting then bin emptied each week 🙂

AFAIR it costs around $45 extra a year.
“Do not overfill bins, if you require extra bins

Many of the topics are regularly recycled.

I hope the riot act is using fully recyclable web pages.

Bonfire, that’s a load of S&!T

Our family of four fills the recycling bin nicely each fortnight. Are you doing some hard drinking Morgan?

its a feelgood con.

the recycled collection goes straight into normal landfill.

You are missing the point of the No-Waste campaign – If they collect the bins infrequently, then we *must* get used to producing less waste.

Given the mentality of Govmit, it makes sense to me.

Yes, there is an odd set of policies about rubbish. It’s strange that there is no hard rubbish collection in Canberra. Hard rubbish collections stop people from simply loading the boot and heading for a quiet trip into the bush.

We had hard rubbish collection twice a year in Melbourne, even though the places to dump rubbish in the inner suburbs is limited. Yet here, where we surrounded by bush and it’s extremely easy for people to get rid of their large items by dumping, there is no collection.

It’s such an obvious thing that is needed for Canberra. Dreadful public administration.
