A body has been discovered late Monday afternoon in grasslands near Lawson, close to the Naval Transmitting Station in Canberra’s northwest.

The body is believed to have been reported to police around 5:30 pm and local residents say that artificial lighting was brought into the area to facilitate investigations last night. The area has been sealed as the investigation continues.

The location, to the north of Lawson, sits between Baldwin Drive to the north and Gininderra Drive to the south and is covered with thick grasslands and bush. A transmission station is situated on Defence Department property and access to the area is usually restricted.

There are no indications from police at this stage about the identity of the deceased person and further details have not been released.

MORE TO COME.
