A 3 km southbound section of the Tuggeranong Parkway between Cotter Road and Hindmarsh Drive will be closed for roadworks from 7 pm this Sunday (5 January).
The roadworks will take place from 7 pm to 6 am from Sunday to Monday, as well as 8 pm to 6 am over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Detours will be in place for southbound drivers, but the northbound section of the road will remain open.
An ACT Government spokesperson said the night asphalt works are expected to take four consecutive evenings (weather permitting) and be completed by Thursday (9 January) morning.
“The work will also complete road resurfacing on this section of the Tuggeranong Parkway,” the spokesperson said.
“In October and November 2024, road resurfacing preparation work was undertaken on this section of road.”
All of the resurfacing work to this area of the Tuggeranong Parkway since October 2024 has been costed at about $1.1 million.
“The ACT Government has various contracts in place with companies for all work planned during the road resurfacing season (generally from October to April each year),” the government spokesperson said.
“In Canberra there are a number of road resurfacing treatments used on the road network. Resurfacing work is done regularly on all roads to help maintain the road for all traffic.”
They said there were several key aims of resurfacing works.
These were to waterproof the road, prevent moisture from entering the road base and stop the formation of potholes, improve the skid resistance of the road surface, and fill cracks in the pavement.
Lane closures are also planned next week at the Glenloch Interchange/William Hovell Drive for road resurfacing work.
These lane closures will take place during the day (outside of peak travel times) from 10 am to 4 pm on 8 and 9 January (weather permitting).
