Canberra’s Cold Chisel show in November has been moved to Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park after it sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.

The legendary Australian band added Canberra to its Big Five-0 tour last week, with Patrick White Lawns next to the National Library getting the gig on Thursday, 28 November.

The bigger venue will allow 2000 extra tickets to be released, going on sale from 2 pm today (19 June).

All tickets currently issued will be automatically transferred to Stage 88.

Cold Chisel will be supported by The Cruel Sea and Karen Lee Andrews.

The switch comes as no surprise as the selection of the Patrick White Lawns immediately raised doubts about whether it would be big enough to support the demand.

It is also on the flat while the Commonwealth Park venue provides a slope for better views of the stage.

There has been a rush on tickets for dates in other cities as well.

New shows added in Brisbane and the Hunter Valley have sold out.

The Sidney Myer Music Bowl show in Melbourne on Saturday, 23 November, has also sold out, with limited tickets still available for the Friday night show.

Limited tickets are still available for the QUDOS Bank Arena show in Sydney on Wednesday, 4 December, but are expected to sell out very soon.

Canberra was originally left off the national 50th-anniversary tour but was added after an outcry from fans.

Tickets are still available for the VAILO 500 motorsport event in Adelaide on Sunday, 17 November.

The band has been blown away by the public demand for the extra shows, with over 200,000 tickets sold in a matter of hours.

To complement The Big Five-0 Tour, Cold Chisel is releasing a new album, 50 Years – The Best Of, on Friday, 23 August, available on multiple double-vinyl formats, on double-CD, and via download and streaming services.

The album covers all of their classic songs but also features a new track, You’ve Got To Move.

All shows are listed on the Cold Chisel website.

$150/ticket, oh shock we need 2000 more “seats”. PS Canberra gig was an afterthought, they didn’t wanna come

I’m very unimpressed with the promoters choice of the initial location, but pleased that they re-thought it. I was on Ticketek as soon as pre-sales opened on Monday and was completely put off by a combination of the cost and location – a lot of money for grass and no seating allowed (not even rugs, according to sales conditions). I opted to skip it and tickets then sold out.

As soon as one of my family informed me yesterday that the location had changed to the far-more-suitable Stage 88 site, I was thrilled to find that tickets had opened up again. I’m pleased to say I’m now going to see them one last time – but very nearly wasn’t.

I was so unimpressed withthe offer I booked elsewhere. That is quite a few hundred $ being exported to another jurisdiction. Bring on the Civic Stadium!

I am glad that you are pleased with your tickets.

I went to see Cold Chisel with a group of friends at the AIS many years ago. We had pretty good seats to the side from what I remember. Band members were strumming away on stage while we all waited for Jimmy to make an appearance. After what seemed an eternity he finally stumbled on to the stage, falling over band members and equipment, swigging from and waving around a bottle of grog. He belted out a few tunes and then was gone!

Jimmy is an icon and I am pleased he is in a much better headspace these days.

Enjoy the concert!

Thanks, Jack.

Yeah, they were crazy days for Chisel. I remember seeing them at the Harmonie German Club in the late 70’s. Barnsie came on stage with a jug of orange juice and a bottle of vodka. He wasn’t very up-right by the end of the show.
