Police allege man assaulted in bedroom by hockey stick-wielding intruder

A 35-year-old McKellar man has allegedly used a wooden hockey stick to assault another man in an unprovoked attack.

ACT Policing said that at about 8:40 pm on 6 August 2024, the man allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom carrying the hockey stick.

He then allegedly began hitting the victim repeatedly with the hockey stick and threatened to kill him, making demands of the man.

The man allegedly received serious injuries to his body as a result of the assault.

ACT Policing carried out a search warrant at the 35-year-old’s residence in McKellar on Monday (12 August).

Police allegedly found three wooden hockey sticks, what they described as a “machete style knife”, 12 rounds of ammunition and two shotgun shells.

The man has been charged with four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm as well as single counts of common assault and reckless threat to kill a person.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (13 August).
