Alleged Gungahlin road rage stabber arrested, refused bail

A man accused of stabbing a fellow driver in the chest during an alleged road rage incident has been arrested and refused bail.

ACT Policing said the incident allegedly began between 1:45 pm and 2:10 pm on Sunday (15 September) when a grey Subaru Liberty pulled in behind a black Mitsubishi Lancer on Flemington Road in Mitchell.

Police believe the drivers of the two cars began “interacting” while driving north on Flemington Road, and then both stopped at Nullarbor Avenue in Franklin.

It is alleged both male drivers got out of their cars and an altercation occurred in which the driver of the Mitsubishi was stabbed in the chest.

He was driven to hospital and police were contacted.

A police spokesperson said on Monday afternoon (16 September), officers raided a 29-year-old man’s home in Florey.

During the search warrant, officers allegedly found a number of items related to the alleged incident, including clothing, a knife and blood on a Subaru.

The man was charged with intentionally wounding and pleaded not guilty when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday (17 September).

Magistrate Robert Cook did not grant him bail, and he was remanded in custody.

The matter was adjourned to 28 October.
