Ten years ago, Sebastian Ellis and Erin Wells took a definitive step towards revolutionising the fitness and health industry to address the large gaps they saw in conventional gym models.
“The biggest issue was how disconnected fitness had become from real health. It was too focused on aesthetics and ego, often overlooking long-term genuine health and lifestyle,” Sebastian says.
“We wanted to change that.”
In an industry they felt was increasingly characterised by “quick fixes, gimmicks and a lack of genuine care”, the goal was clear: create a space where functional training, community support and holistic well-being would drive sustainable long-term real results.
So Elements4Life was born, a network of functional training gyms starting in Harrison, then Belconnen and Murrumbateman. The brand quickly distinguished itself with its “get real” approach.
The philosophy centres on creating a “paradigm shift” led by an educated fitness community that values consistency, mindset and a balanced approach over shortcuts.
“Trends and quick fixes don’t deliver sustainable results. Never have, never will … We wanted to create a place where people could achieve real, long-term results with a focus on human movement patterns, functional training and community support,” Sebastian says.
“I’ve always believed in a broader outlook: combining movement, mindset and nutrition, which has evolved into an understanding of self-healing and toxicity. Living a toxic-free lifestyle with strength is becoming the new black.”
Elements4Life focuses on mindset as the linchpin to long-term success, which Erin says requires more than physical results alone.
“Mindset is the foundation. You can’t change your body without changing your mindset … We encourage people to shift their thinking toward consistency and self-care,” she says.
“When we see members embrace this mentality and transform their lives, it’s everything. Watching people grow physically, mentally and emotionally is why we started this.”
Central to these transformations is the Elements4Life community.
“This tight-knit community has played a crucial role in the transformation stories that have emerged over the years — stories of people overcoming injuries, trauma, and embracing lasting lifestyle changes,” Erin says.
“These relationships are what set Elements4Life apart, creating a fitness family that supports one another through every challenge … We are always only one conversation away from a breakthrough moment.”
In an ever-evolving fitness landscape, Sebastian insists that this human-first focus need not preclude the early adoption of new systems and efficiencies.
On the contrary, he says technological innovation will play a huge role in personalising fitness and health.
“Just look at AI. These advancements aim to enhance each member’s journey by offering more tailored training experiences and optimising data tracking,” he says.
“We’re excited about the integration of technology and better systems. It’s going to make our programs even more personalised and effective,” Erin adds.
While the brand’s 10th anniversary is a chance to honour its achievements and thank the community for its unwavering support, it also sets the stage for future growth and expansion, according to Erin.
She says the pair’s eyes are set on the next decade and beyond, which will encompass growth for the brand while maintaining its core values.
“We want to maintain the close-knit community vibe we’re known for. Quality will always come first,” she says.
Long-term plans include the development of new locations and services, as well as the continued integration of technology to provide members with even more personalised and effective training options.
To mark Elements4Life’s 10th anniversary, Sebastian and Erin are doubling down on a message of growth through community-driven success with a major membership competition.
Poised to bring in a host of new members into the fold over the next three months, the gym will be running a daily Spin the Wheel three-month membership giveaway.
