Police allegedly discovered a drink driver was six times over the legal limit at the scene of a car crash on the weekend.

An ACT Policing spokesperson said at about 8:30 pm on Saturday (21 December), officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Mirrabei Drive and Bernard Heinze Avenue in Moncrieff.

The spokesperson said when they arrived, the driver of a black Holden Commodore – which was one of the vehicles involved in the crash – tried to walk away from the area when the officers approached him.

He was subjected to a roadside alcohol screening test that returned a positive result and a later breath analysis test where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading of 0.306 – which was more than six times the legal limit.

The 39-year-old from Ngunnawal was issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending his ACT drivers licence for 90 days.

He was also served a court attendance notice to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on a charge of drink driving in the future.
