I had no idea it was even raining until my high schooler walked through the door looking something like a drowned Kodiak, having walked in the howling gale for close to an hour after losing her bus money.

pfft, i was in floriade just before it closed, it wasnt that bad.

Thank god i was stuck inside my work (Yay! Retail!) all afternoon/night afterwoulds..

And i must admit, i lol’d at the statue thing in woden, it was going off its nut 🙂

Um, this is Spring weather! We generally get fronts or trough-related harsh weather (like today) during Spring, and then thunderhead storms starting around November-December.

Days like today are why I prefer Autumn – Spring is all about wind and storms, whereas Autumn is still and peaceful.

i hate that this weather always happens when i am holiday or day off, and when i actually have things to do it is so sunny grrrr

Lights were also out on the Barton Hwy / Gungahlin Drive intersection and at some places in Mitchell. Very inconvenient – cost me a good 10 seconds of extra travel time as I slowed down to make sure I wasn’t going to collect anyone. Honestly, a little bit of wind and rain and everything goes to hell. What is this, the dark ages? (No pun intended).

BoM said 98km/h gusts at Canberra Airport at around 4:20 PM. The highest wind we’ve ever got was 128km/h back in the 50’s.

Still kinda cool.

The big crane at Woden aboveScarborough House was shrieking its high wind alarm. Needless to say that it was not operating.

I saw a large branch fall off an old apple box gum onto my neighbour’s apartment in Campbell. What a racket!

A 9yo boy in Kambah was pinned under a fallen tree until a resident went to work with his chainsaw. Off to hospital apparently.

Pretty wild and woolly out there this arvo – winds of 40kph and gusts to 70kph according to Weatherzone at one point.

Power went out in Waramanga earlier for a good 20 seconds. Very inconvenient.

Some “ornamental fascia sheets” came loose off one of the Snowtown office buildings and there was no entry or exit because apparently there was only the one door.

yes, i was excited that I couldn’t see how crap the place looks. thought I was somewhere nice for a change.

ACTEW says power’s out in Kingston, Fyshwick, Narrabundah, Campbell, Duntroon, Wanniassa and Kaleen. Traffic lights out on Ginninderra Drive and Hindmarsh Drive.

23 calls for help according to ABC. MIX and 2CC were off-air for a bit this arvo as well.
