Bellco Blackout

By johnboy 15 September 2008 36

Word reaches us that the Belconnen Mall has been without power this afternoon due to the wild weather.

Any tales of excitement?

UPDATE: The ABC reports wider disruptions than just Belconnen.

I should add that whales have obviously become extinct in Lake Tuggeranong.

At least they still have the Loch Tuggers monster, though.

Holy crap – do I! The winds blew away most of my newly blooming blossoms and other flowers.

Now, if that isn’t hardcore – I don’t know what is!

For my fellow weather nerds, there is a Doppler radar at yarrawonga that gives you wind speed and direction on a 10 min loop. It was going gangbusters yesterday. That red dust was blowing straight from the mallee.

Granny: a more resourceful teenager would have wandered around a bus interchange saying “can ya give me two bucks for the bus, cuz?”

*chuckle*

She used to sometimes busk in Dickson, and once made $30. It was quite funny because she had no musical instruments and would just invent the songs as she went. I am ashamed to confess she did call me and ask for a lift, but I had one of her sisters asleep and I thought, “What could it hurt for her to actually walk somewhere?” However, she didn’t mention the typhoon or anything and I was just like, “Hey, is there a world out there?” Who knew?

Anyhow, fortunately she didn’t end up pinned under a tree and we did have a happy ending.

Yeah, we ended up getting a mudstorm after all. Notice the colour, too. That red dirt came from somewhere a long way west of here.

My car is now really dirty.

A 9yo boy in Kambah was pinned under a fallen tree until a resident went to work with his chainsaw.

You don’t need a chainsaw for a 9yo. A good sharp carving knife is plenty.

And there’s not a large population of whales in LBG, even less in lake Ginninderra.
