Over the last month, Music ACT have been accepting entries for the inaugural MAMA’s awards. If you were still hoping to enter, you’re too late for this year, but you can now cast your vote for the categories below. The more people that vote, the bigger the boost to the The ACT music industry.
Music ACT have gone all out to ensure that this is a showcase event bringing in a number of independent judges to arrive at the short list of finalists, who in two independent groups also arrived at the same finalists for artist of the year, and live performer of the year.
Peter Bayliss, Director of Music ACT told me that “The idea is that if we give winners a title like ‘Best Rock Band in the Capital’ they’ll probably become international rock stars. If they name the best songwriter, it will lead to a more prestigious song writing industry. With a big stage in a beautiful old hall (Albert Hall on dec 7), MusicACT can give the leading players a platform for their potential. ”
The inaugural MAMAs which will be held on December 7 at the Albert Hall (reclaiming it from persian rug sales) should be an awesome event celebrating and recognising the diversity of original music in Canberra. Tickets are now available here. Check back often. Music ACT will also be organising two workshops in the leadup to the awards night on music management and production.
