Revellers

“Back to the Unearthed Reviews!” said Johnboy.

Cool! Next on our list of bands to look at are the Revellers, a three piece act that sound like being 18 in Belconnen feels. It’s actually a shame they weren’t around back when I was 18 in Belconnen because I would have loved them. As it stands I listened to their one track and felt a little like a cranky old man.

Here’s what they have to say about themselves:

Formed by Josh Anderson and Aaron Gaffney (both ex-Lamexcuse) and their good friend and drummer Dave DeMaine, REVELLERS have been keeping busy since their inception (during mid 2012) by doing a bunch of writing, recording, and then picking up a bunch of shows, including supports with established and awesome acts such as Anchors (Melbourne), Transit (USA), The Outsiders (NZ), Paper Arms (Adelaide) and The Swellers (USA).

2013 sees REVELLERS prepare to release their debut EP ‘Night Time Lunatics’, which was recorded locally, then sent over to Tulsa, Oklahoma USA to be mixed and mastered by punk rock legend Stephen Egerton (Descendents/ALL).

’99’ is the first taste of what’s to come from ‘Night Time Lunatics’, which is planned for release in early April 2013, accompanied by a string of exciting shows around this vast country.

This is what I have to say about them:

Their sound is fun. The song 99 is also quite fun. The Revellers are fun, but also quite bland. I heard nothing in that track that I haven’t heard done a thousand times before by a thousand other bands. This doesn’t make it bad, just… lacking. I need a hook, something to make me care. The other issue I really have is with the vocals. Like any decent punk rock star Anderson expresses a decent amount of angst and frustration in his vocals, but sadly this comes at the expense of his diction. As it stands I have no idea what he’s upset about. Speak up young man!

I feel old.
