Joining a gym is a great first step to a new you. But as too many of us know, the ‘signing up’ is the easy part – it’s not a guaranteed path to health and fitness.

That burst of determination and energy in the first few weeks usually leads to sore muscles and increasing feelings of self-doubt as you watch other people seemingly cruise through their workouts while you drag yourself from one station to another.

Elements4Life founder and head coach Sebastian Ellis has seen this pattern on repeat so many times he decided there had to be a better way to introduce people to regular exercise.

Sebastian is an experienced athlete and passionate business operator who created the Elements4Life functional training concept and opened its flagship site in Harrison in 2010, offering functional workouts, personal training, barre, yoga, Pilates and regular gym access.

“The hardest part of starting a new health and fitness program is building up the courage to actually set foot in the door,” he says. “But too many gyms and fitness centres show people around, sign them up and then just leave them to it.

“If not supervised or shown correct techniques or how to use equipment, people will very self-consciously try to figure it out for themselves and then end up getting sore or injured and give up.”

Sebastian knew it didn’t have to be this way so he created a whole new way to train: ‘Smart Training’.

“It is a play on words,” he explains. “We want to be smart about training and use smart equipment to ensure members are getting the most out of their workouts.

“Every member is onboarded to our community and to our various Smart Training systems in an intelligent, progressive process, no matter what level or stage of life they are at. The induction process is so important as it gives people confidence, and that means they are more likely to keep coming and achieve their goals.

“All our coaches are trained to monitor and assess people on technique, results and progression. This level of attention and focus facilitates fitness success. No-one gets ignored.”

The concept has been so successful, Elements4Life is opening a second site at Belconnen Markets. Opening on 27 March, the new centre will incorporate all of Elements4Life’s proven methods, expert coaching and exclusive technology and equipment, as well as healthy fresh food on offer, in the one place.

Elements4Life has a cap on numbers to a maximum of 20 people for all of its sessions to ensure better member experiences and to maintain high coaching standards.

“You will never see 30, 40 or 50-plus people in a session with us,” says Sebastian. “By reducing numbers, we reduce the chaos and increase the focus on each person in the room.

“We aim to offer the best in functional training, yoga, barre, Pilates, running development, strength conditioning and general training for a better life.

“Workshops and holistic programs for personal development are also part of our community outlook.

“We are really excited to be opening our second site. The demand is proof to us that people love us and that we are doing good things. We want to ensure our members are put into the best possible environment to genuinely put on lean muscle mass, lose unnecessary body fat, and, most importantly, feel they belong, build confidence and move injury free.”

Elements4Life Belconnen’s grand opening is on 27 March, 2021. You can win a three-month membership by signing up for a session.
