Just in ABC radio reports that a plane at Canberra airport coming in to land did a go around just metres from touch down because there was another 737 still on the runway. Apparently landed planes need to be 52 metres away from the runway to consider it having cleared. The pilots of the go around plane reported to have been ashen faced from a passenger report.

Sounds like your headline and the ashen faced pilot part of the story are typical of the beat-up aviation related stories get in the media!

Sure… aviation stories need to be disseminated but perhaps with a few more grains of sobriety and less of the sensationalist variety.

The ABC now has a report on it. Sounds like it wasn’t exactly “ashen face” inducing. Maybe the pilot just doesn’t get much sun.

Watching these planes land, I’m sure it wasn’t as close as this article makes it out to be. These pilots can almost land 737’s on postage stamps.

Quick poll: how many normal people use “ashen faced” as a descriptor?

But no dogs this time.
