With the good government of the Australian Capital Territory completely under control the Chiefly Jon Stanhope’s thoughts turn to distant Palestine.
Members of the ACT Legislative Assembly have been invited to a special briefing by the head of the Palestinian delegation to Australia, as the first step towards the possible establishment of a local branch of the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine.
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said the offer of a briefing had been made last month by the Head of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Mr Izzat Abdulhadi.
Mr Abdulhadi had offered to brief interested ACT MLAs on the latest political and social developments in Palestine and the status of Palestine’s pursuit of a two-state solution in the Middle East.
He had also expressed interest in establishing a local version of the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine, which exists at the Commonwealth level and which is also being established in some State jurisdictions.
Is this sort of global outreach the sort of thing you want your MLAs undertaking?
