And the Mully Cup for December 2011 goes to Sylvia from This Is Not Charity

johnboy 3 January 2012 18

mully cup

The Mully Cup very nearly went to Cat Throwing Teenagers. But in the end the cup has been awarded to Sylvia from this is not charity.

Proving that the silly season is an excellent time to kick off a media campaign as bored hacks will jump at anything she kicked things off with an incendiary post here which went on to also trigger a tweetstorm of local personalities trying to outdo each other with their concern.

Congratulations “Sylvia”, you’ve won the December 2011 Mully Cup!

Thank you RiotACT for this award.

From the comments below, I can see that some Rioters are not happy with your decision.

Although thisisnotcharity only received 86 comments, it also generated plenty of media attention, including radio, press, TV and online news stories. Even Parton, a previous Mully Cup winner wants to speak with me about this issue.

I've dedicated countless hours to the website, emailing replies to hundreds of messages, responding to media, driving around Canberra taking pictures while stepping over smelly mattresses and filthy bogan junk, uploading, cropping, reducing kb's of images, designing the site, buying the domain, Facebooking, tweeting, Rioting (a bit) and going back for more pics each day.

I have been carefully reading comments and suggestions about finding a solution to the problem, and will provide a summary of your suggestions to the Government in the near future.

Yes, the issue has been raised countless times, but these particular images have opened the eyes of many, including Katy Gallagher and her colleagues, the Opposition and Greens, not to mention the charities themselves.

I'm passionate about bringing a stop to illegal dumping. The amount of media attention that has been generated would not have been possible without the support of websites such as RiotACT, Twitter, and Facebook, and the media stories. Of those three, only RiotACT provided a platform for well thought-out comments and suggestions about illegal dumping. The Government has taken note.

For this reason, I'm happy and proud to accept this award for the month of December 2011.

Thank you RiotACT, thank you johnboy.

Now you can all stop laughing at my acceptance speech, which I think deserves another award. ;)

If the Mully cup thread wins a Mully, the universe collapses in on itself like a white commodore wrapping round a pole.

I think you're right! :-)

agree

I think she should write in to protest the Mully decision, maybe even do a video :)

You're really determined to demonstrate profound ignorance and inability to follow links today aren't you?
Well a brief look at the recipients (linked to in the OP) would show you your understanding is woeful.

But let me refer you to the foundation document:

So in Mully’s memory we’d like to commission a trophy for the most comment creating Canberran in a given month.

Come on JB, I love your work. Perhaps Sylvia could come up with some artful piece from her visits to the charity bins? May just be some handy trinkets in amongst all that crap.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the new version of the Mully - three hub caps and more flannelette than is proper in once place - can't wait.

johnboy 12:50 pm 03 Jan 12

feel free to start your own awards.

Buzz2600 12:48 pm 03 Jan 12

Okay JB, if them's the rules ....

Except that a quick perusal of the cat throwing topic (two posts in two days 13 and 14 Dec) delivers a whopping 155 comments in total (68 + 87). Add 'em together you far exceed the 86 comments on charity dumping .... just saying.

JB - I don't get where you're coming from here. I also considered the Mully Cup recognised the flanny wearing scum of Canberra. How is Sylvia (whom I assume it the creator of the thisisnotcharity website etc) a worthy recipient of this award? Dumping at charity bins has been a seasonal topic on RiotACT. Are you suggesting that the profile thisisnotcharity has created on the issue isn't a good thing?
i allways thought the mully cup should be dedticated to bogans who off them selves in a stupid way kind of like the darwin award doesnt seem like the right person to give this award 2.

.but yeh soon the mully cup will run out of spokes soon n you will have to make a new one.

i suggest nexttime using 2 hub cups then use woodstock cans as pillars n glue them together.

then maybe one can of the top.that would give it a real trophy look
Well then you have misunderstood the Mully Cup.

We already have plans to expand the base with another three hubcaps.
