By johnboy - 4 September 2012 31

apple promo

Yes the long awaited Apple store is finally opening in the Canberra Centre this Saturday and the first thousand punters through the door get a t-shirt no purchase required.

The wait is over (for those who were waiting)

What’s Your opinion?

@The_RiotACT interestingly, the Mac1 appears to have closed, I saw builders gutting the shop at lunch.

Canberra Centre had to give them a big pay out to close. One of the contracts (I don’t know if it was Mac1’s or Apple’s) said that there couldn’t be another dedicated Apple retailer in the centre…….

Do tell more, a rather boring story just got interesting now…. So who was forced out I wonder, did Mac1 cave under the power of the mighty corporate giant, or was the mighty corporate giant forced to back out when they realised their reseller still had time left on their contract with them…..

Frankly I’m dissapointed, I always wanted a free mac t-shirt to burn on an effigy…..

I agree, it’s vaguely tragic, but there’s something there about free access to the breast I think. Not that breasts and burritos have much in common…

Except both being evidence of a benevolent deity.

Not as exciting as a free burrito.

Yes, all of Canberra will fondly remember the day they lined up for their free burrito! I know i’ll be telling my grandkids about it. The air was fresher and the birds chirpier that day. Sigh! 🙂

Well, in a perfect world……

Better hope Samsung doesn’t sell t-shirts.

..or they better not try to sell tshirts too!

Yes, those Samsung t-shirts look very similar to Apple’s ones; with sleeves on both sides and crew neck collars – exactly just like the Apple designed ones.

See you in court, Samsung; Apple’s going to go thermonuclear on you!

The shop in the Canberra Centre near the food court is/was Mac1, a local Apple Premium dealer. Premium dealerships sell most products except iPhone, service the product locally, and in most respects are a store that specialise in Apple products. The Apple Store is run by Apple, sells everything in the catalogue, and is supposed to be a better retail experience than any other store you have visited.

I thought there was already one on Canberra Centre next to the food court? Or is that some other type of monster?

That’s a Mac1 store, there’s another on the other side of civic near the ANU. I wonder how long they’ll last now?
