Bagpiper in Civic - community service worker?

The guy who semi-regularly plays his bagpipes in Civic is out there again today. Leaves me wondering if the government pays him to play to drive the low-lifes and undersirables away, much as playing Barry Manilow music is reputed to do.

(Sorry bagpipe guy, just a joke, and I’m sure you can take a joke. You play the bagpipes, after all…)

Thinking about it now, I actually don’t understand what the bagpipers were doing in Borneo ….

Yes, I do. On certain occasions, such as funerals or memorials to great events/battles/tragedies, I find bagpipes quite moving.

In other contexts, such as a busy mall, they are just maudlin. ‘orrible screechy things.

(Sorry Granny, I was once a drummer in a pipe band, so I REALLY hate bagpipes)

A biology graduate student went to Borneo to take some samples for his thesis work. He flew there and found a guide with a canoe to take him up the river to the remote site where he would make his collections. About noon on the second day of travel up the river they began to hear drums. Being a city boy by nature, the biologist was disturbed by this. He asked the guide, “What are those drums?”

The guide turned to him and said, “Drums Ok, but Very Bad when they stop.”

Well the biologist settled down a little at this, and things went reasonably well for about two weeks. Then, just as they were packing up the camp to leave, the drums suddenly stopped! This hit the biologist like a ton of bricks (to coin a phrase), and he yelled at his guide, “The drums have stopped! What happens now?”

The guide crouched down, covered his head with his hands and said, “Bagpipe Solo!”

Leaving only the high-lives and desirables?

Did you hear the one about the bagpiper who parked his car with the windows open, forgetting that he had left his bagpipes in the back seat?
He rushed back as soon as he realized it, but it was too late–someone had already put another set of bagpipes in the car.

Q: Why do bagpipers walk when they play?
A: To get away from the noise.

As for pipes, a great night was had many years back at teh Contented Soul. We were there soaking up cider and stuff, and the woden valley pipe mob had been playing a gig, and came there for afters. So at some stage in the night, someone laid a bet and a bloke fired up his pipes and played something very long and evidently won the bet, but that stirred the rest of them and the drummers got going and then the rest of them started blasting away. I dimly remember dancing a wild reel with some old bugger wearing an animal skin and carrying a long stick. Anyway, it was a pretty darn good night.

With my Scottish heritage, the bag pipes are lovely.

Likewise, TP. It stirs my blood.

That’s not that mad old bugger in the kilt with the milk crate, is it?

With my Scottish heritage, the bag pipes are lovely. The best times are when the Scottish Band play outside the Burns Club & Kambah is surrounded by the noise of bag pipes & drums.

I suspect it may of been connected with that Multicultural Festival thing.

Or promise never to play Amazing Grace.

Pity he doesn’t play in the Assembly to keep the low-lifes out

Or lead them out – like the pied piper.

I remember there was a guy who played his pipes in the Russell Offices carpark every now and then. Same guy??

I dunno. There was a cold late autumn noon a few years back when the wind was skirling and sending the grey and gold clouds scudding (rainlessly – sigh) between the silver towers, and the bagpipes piping away just matched the mood perfectly.

Maybe yah had ta be there though.
