While the name LLL Designs may not ring an immediate bell in your head, you have probably come across their bright and funky stalls pretty much all over Canberra, from the Night Market in Barton to the Fash’n’Treasure Markets in EPIC, to the awesome free jewellery-making workshops for kids at Belconnen Mall.
LLL Designs is a local jewellery company that sells trendy unique pieces. The brains (and the beauty) behind LLL is Amanda Stevens. Amanda originally started creating jewellery as a hobby when she had to give up her regular job due to health challenges. LLL is now a busy little business with a bustling Etsy store.
I first came across LLL at the Hustle and Scout markets last year and fell completely in love with their awesome beaded necklaces – the beads are hand-rolled from polymer.
Fast forward to today and I’m the proud owner of several LLL necklaces and about six pairs of earrings.
Before doing full-time jewellery Amanda made quilts, scrapbooked and sewed. Amanda says she’s always loved working with her hands and being creative. “Being able to create something from nothing and see the joy it brought to people is amazing,” Amanda said. “Seeing someone wearing one of my creations always makes me so proud and happy and it’s also very humbling.”
When you buy a piece from LLL Designs online, not only are you getting a piece of handmade jewellery, but everything comes beautifully gift-wrapped. “I like to inject a bit of fun into all my orders and packaging is something that I love to go the extra mile. I love to get creative with it and make each one into a little work of art.”
The LLL Designs tagline is ‘Life’s too short to wear boring jewellery’, something that is reflected in its sales, with the most popular earring designs being the pug studs and llama studs. There is so much colour and fun in these designs, what’s not to love about a pair of dragonfruit earrings or a babushka doll kitty brooch.
LLL Designs is a great example of a local Canberra company with a super creative director doing cool things to the beat of their own drum. I always look forward to their new releases and seeing what Amanda comes up with next.
