Sand, sea and salty air. Close to Canberra, the South Coast is a great destination for a quick get-away or longer holiday. The beaches are great, the views are breathtaking and there are many opportunities to get up-close and personal with the locals!

With a multitude of reasons to visit the South Coast, the least of your worries should be booking accommodation. Lucky for you, the South Coast is spoiled for choices of places to stay, with many hotels and resorts available close to beaches, immersed in nature and at all different price points.

But with so many to choose, how do you know which place to book? In this article, we’ll outline the qualities to consider when looking for accommodation along the South Coast, and share where to find the best.

What makes a great hotel or resort?

Choosing the right hotel or resort can make or break your stay on the South Coast. Most likely, you’re looking to book accomodation for your holiday – and you don’t want your relaxing time to be spoiled by the place you’re staying at.

It can be helpful to keep the following in mind when choosing a hotel or resort.

  • Style. Each hotel and resort has its own style and personality. Some operate at luxury level, some are comfy and affordable, and some focus on family-friendly accommodation. Check options online, and review the hotel or resort photos, to choose what best suits your needs.
  • Location. Accommodation on the South Coast tends to be well located, each in their own way. Depending on your taste, you might want a hotel or resort that’s more secluded. Or you might want to be in walking distance to the hustle bustle of a town. Also check proximity to beaches and bush walks.
  • Cost. As with all accommodation, cost varies with hotels and resorts on the South Coast. Some are more expensive, depending on their offering, and others very affordable. The best hotels and resorts will be fair with their pricing. With many different price points available, be sure to choose one that suits you. But, do keep in mind that cost may reflect quality.
  • Amenities. If a range of amenities is important to you, check online for what hotels and resorts offer. Some have their own pools, bars, restaurants, and even beauty treatments. Others are a walking distance to a town. The best hotels and resorts will make your stay as convenient as possible, and will be able to provide any service (or recommendation for one nearby) to fulfill your need.
  • View. Let’s be real. You didn’t come all the way to the South Coast to view a busy road. The best hotels and resorts will go out of their way to provide guests with a stunning view.
