Bowhunter hits a horse

By johnboy - 12 April 2013 15

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after a horse was injured by an arrow in Belconnen yesterday (April 11).

Around 4pm the owner of the horse arrived at the paddock at the Belconnen Pony Club on Southern Cross Drive, Macgregor, to find a carbon fibre arrow in the horse’s upper chest. Fortunately, the wound proved to be superficial.

No other horses were injured during this incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Maybe he/she was practising for their next foray into a National Park.

Bowhunting should be illegal. But then I think all hunting except for that by licenced, professional hunters should be illegal.

You know the only difference between a “licensed, professional hunter” and a recreational hunter is an ABN, right? No additional training required, and no extra competency. The person doing this is unlikely to have been an actual hunter, but rather just some tool with a bow. For all we know, it could have been somebody practicing archery, considering the article doesn’t tell us what type of arrowhead was being used….

But hey, continue spouting clueless drivel and pretending hunting = cruelty. Recreational hunters only invest a ton of their time and money into providing free pest control, and save state governments a few million bucks a year while doing so. They do a hell of a lot more for the environment than the people whining about hunting.

Maybe he was bow hunting, had no intention of horsing around, searched for his arrow but couldn’t find it?

Horrible. 🙁

So many animal cruelty incidents being reported here. Whether it be cats or swans or horses it indicates that there are some very violent individuals. Seeing a horse and shooting it with a bow like this is inexcusable.

Surely hunting with bows is, by its nature, a cruel sport, putting aside the fact that this was someone’s pet horse and this is clearly illegal? Wouldn’t it often result in an animal being injured, often where there is no-one to help it (or to finish it off)?

I have no issues with bowhunting in general, but this bloke is definitely a complete arsehat.

Sounds like a clown with no idea or just a cruel f***wit but as the deer down that way come closer to Macgregor I’m expecting more of his sort of crap lots of poaching off the side of the, road Down past parkwood

Bowhunter, srsly? It makes me think of someone who hunts bows, not horses. If only there were a word for a person who practices archery…

They should be licensed the same, they are just as deadly. The only difference is the range.

It takes a lot more practice to be able to massacre with a bow. I’d say that’s a point of difference.
Also, any archery gear stolen lately?

It is wierd how all the animal cruelty stories are in Belconnen.

I’d be astounded if this was an accident. More likely some complete arsehat has decided it would be fun to start shooting animals with arrows.

People may be next. I hope he or she doesn’t have access to firearms.

Perhaps we can challenge the archer to a contest, arrow vs wadcutter. My money is on the wadcutter!

Ben_Dover 5:32 pm 12 Apr 13

I could fix this person. Just give me five minutes alone with them.

Oh, I’ll need a hammer.
