Simon Chester, Brumbies General Manager Commercial Operations, is moving to Geocon in mid-January 2018.

Brumbies General Manager – Commercial Operations, Simon Chester, today announced that, after seven years with the Brumbies, he will be leaving to take up a position with Geocon in mid-January 2018.

Canberra based Geocon is Australia’s fastest-growing developer of high-rise apartments, with a gross turnover that has increased from $140 million in 2016 to in excess of $400 million this financial year.

“There are strong synergies with the Brumbies being a strong iconic Canberra brand and Geocon being a rapidly emerging Canberra brand,” Simon explained.

“As a passionate Canberran, I’m looking forward to promoting another great Canberra story.”

After an extensive recruitment process, Geocon have appointed Simon Chester to the new role of Strategic Partnership Manager, working within their in-house sales team and focussing on markets external to Canberra.

“Simon’s current role as General Manager – Commercial Operations for the Brumbies, promoting Canberra to people in Asia and the Middle East, as well as his extensive experience in business development and building commercial partnerships, make him an excellent fit for this appointment,” Geocon Managing Director, Nick Georgalis, said.

Simon said that he was proud of his seven years at the Brumbies and that they were in a ‘very stable position and looking good for 2018’.

Simon says two of his major achievements at the Brumbies were the two big sponsorship deals with AQUIS and Plus500.

“Plus500 were a company based in Israel that sponsored only one team in the world – Atletico Madrid. I flew over to Tel Aviv, presented and secured a multimillion-dollar sponsorship for the Brumbies,” Simon said proudly.

So, what led Simon to leave a dream job with the Brumbies to enter the property industry?

“The idea of selling Canberra to new markets is what attracted me most to this exciting role. The economy is booming and the statistics really back up the fact that Canberra is a great place to invest in property.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Simon concluded.
