Brumbies weigh up Stromlo or UC

The Canberra Times explains that the Brumbies are tossing up a move to Mount Stromlo or joining the University of Canberra campus as they proceed with plans to demolish their own current headquarters next year to make way for their real estate speculation.

UC has a ready supply of attractive women who’d like to meet professional footballers, and is handy to the AIS and Canberra Stadium,.

Stromlo on the other hand is probably a better bet for further real estate speculation.

I can see how they feel torn on this.

How exactly did the Brumbies acquire the land at Griffith originally?

They quietly applied to the ACT Govt to take over the lease of the land.
It came as a bit of a shock to Easts Rugby who had been playing & training there since 1938.

Quietly appled, took over a designated sporting zone, commerically developed the land and plan to make a mint. Judging by the qutoe in the CT article, that is intention for the new training base. Don’t see why ACT taxpapers should have to help them out with their business investments.

Yes, they have the coat of arms…but they don’t call themselves the “ACT Brumbies”. That’s my beef with them. They removed the “ACT” for some sort of strategic marketing reason (a bad move in my opinion). Maybe it’s just me…but “ACT Brumbies” seems to have a much better ring to it than “CA Technologies Brumbies”!

Yes. How dare that team which represents the ACT and south-eastern NSW try to appeal to a larger support base in the modern professional sporting market.

Does anyone doubt that they’re an ACT team from the ACT who play their homes games in the ACT? No.

So quit whining and get over it.

Was the land gifted to them in the first place? If so, what right do they have to sell it of then go hat in hand to the ACT government asking for a new base?

The Brumbies have the ACT coat of arms on their jersey.

They are the ONLY Australian Super team to feature their state/territory’s coat of arms on their jersey.

They also have a reference to Canberra’s upcoming anniversary on their kit.

Ummmm, check the Brumbies website. The Jerseys have the ACT Coat of Arms on it.

Don’t let 2 minutes of research get in the way….

> seeing as the brumbies took off any mention of a.c.t and/or canberra on their team insignia, I think the brumbies should look in NSW for new facilities

I still can’t believe they ever did that….or that they haven’t added it back in. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid decision.

seeing as the brumbies took off any mention of a.c.t and/or canberra on their team insignia, I think the brumbies should look in NSW for new facilities

At least one member of the Bowls club that used to be at the Griffith site feels they were hard done by the Brumbies. Give the grannies back their pitch I say.

I would suggest they wait on the FIFA decision to see if we get a new stadium at Bruce.

I’m really struggling to detect a reading of my care factor on this issue. Overpaid, underperforming eejits, and the players are no better. Surely there are other places that would be appropriate, Cooma, Burrinjuck, Yass maybe ?
