Bushfire season delayed

By Kerces 23 September 2005 3

Well we must be finally getting over our bushfire fear, with the start of bushfire season this year delayed a month until 1 November.

I seem to remember last year the season’s start was brought forward.

Anyway, the scientific reasons for the delay are that we’ve had a fair amount of rain recently that’s dampened everything and it won’t dry out as quickly.

What’s Your opinion?

I sense a prediction coming on….”if only the authorities had put in place improved procedures and plans, this (another fire) would never have happened”.

Got it one K. Its been raining.

However, there is a small problem about the rain that ESA forgot to mention. More rain in spring means massive growth of grasses wehich leads to more fuel in summer and larger grassfires, which admittedly, are really not that much of a worry, but they can be if they get away.

Plus, we seem to have a very large firebreak to the west of Weston Creek now.
