Calwell man blows .222

By johnboy - 27 July 2013 12

ACT Policing has suspended the licence of a Calwell man caught drink driving more than four times over the legal limit last night (Friday, July 26).

Around 7.30pm, police were conducting mobile traffic patrols on Outrim Avenue, Calwell when they stopped a vehicle and conducted a breath test on the driver and received a positive reading.

The 44-year-old was transported to the Tuggeranong Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, returning a Blood Alcohol Centration (BAC) reading of 0.222 (over four times the legal limit).

The man’s ACT Driver’s licence was immediately suspended and he will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

.222? Shouldn’t he be dead?

I read somewhere that there’s a serious risk of losing consciousness above 0.25, and of dying above 0.3.

Merely an amateur drinker…

When I read the headline, I thought it was some immoral act with a rifle.

Not from any bacterial cause.

Seems like he was well and truly ‘shot’…

Not at all. If he’s a veteran alcoholic – and given his age, that’s highly likely – then that probably amounts to a skinful, not a fatal dose (not in the short term anyway).

Excellent work. I have long thought that with two drinking establishments next door to each other in Calwell that the police could sit just around the corner and catch most patrons leaving by car. My previous next door neighbour for one would have lost his licence long ago!

I disagree. They would only get a dozen or so drivers. Again. And again. And again.

Perhaps a few sharp nails appropriately positioned might change his mind?
